Known limitations

The current release, 0.7.8, with its rough edges listed rather than hidden.

This release

  • Windows desktop only (Windows 11 at launch).
  • One connected project at a time. The application remembers many games and switches between them, and protects the one that is connected.
  • No automatic updater. New versions install over the old one from a fresh download; your settings, PIN and protected copies carry over.
  • No live restore. Recovery always builds into a new, empty folder. Writing an earlier copy over a live project stays disabled.
  • No automatic cleanup. Fate Tracker deletes nothing. It shows what is safe for you to remove, and you do it yourself.
  • No cloud sync, team accounts or telemetry.

Smaller edges worth knowing

  • The quick change comparison between copies uses file paths, sizes and times. The full fingerprint verification happens when a safe copy is made.
  • Automatic finding does not look inside folders named like engine caches. Pointing at a folder directly still reaches any project.
  • One automated safety check is recorded as skipped rather than passed, because the environment it needs was not available. It is documented in the test record shipped with the release rather than quietly counted as a pass.

Testing status

Automated checks 271 passing at packaging for release 0.7.8.
Independent testing Complete. An independent tester ran release 0.7.6-preview in a disposable Windows 11 environment on an already-started project, using the careful mode for other engines. Ease of use was scored 8 out of 10; confidence that the project stayed safe, 9 out of 10.
Tester findings The three usability findings were repaired in release 0.7.7 and retested by the application’s automated checks; 0.7.8 then corrected a window-layout defect found by those checks.

Release 0.7.8 is the customer release. It goes on sale once the installer is code-signed, the policies are reviewed, and one clean test purchase has succeeded.
